He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Pierce Freeman and Sally Mae Wicker Freeman; his wife Doris Jean Nestler Freeman; his son John "Johnny" Wayne Freeman, Jr.; and his siblings, Billy Pierce Freeman, James Freeman and Sara Freeman Grass.

He is survived by: his daughter Stacie Lurenz (Fred); his grandchildren, Chelsey Marie Freeman (Elliot Long), Addyson Lurenz and Adien Lurenz; and his brother Robert Freeman.
