He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Hessler and Lois Hessler (Haynie); his stepfather Clifford Arnold; his brother Bob Hessler; his half-siblings, Mark Hessler and Ann Scott; and also Richard Orville Hessler, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Virginia; his children, Daniel Hessler (Susan), James Hessler and Claudia "Casey" Olson; his daughter-in-law Sandra Hessler; his grandchildren, Kirsten Slotcavage (Dan), Richard Orville "Roth" Hessler III, Winston Hessler, Ursula Hessler, Quinn Olson, Lila Olson and Talia Olson; and his half-sister Kay Sauber.
