He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Macklin and Ruby Hutchinson Motes; his wife Annie Mae Wade Motes; his son Richard Motes; and his siblings, Eva Mae Hoven and Frank Motes.
He is survived by: his children, Lamar Motes (Angie), Gary Motes (Sandra) and Mary Ann Ready (Clay, Sr.); and his siblings, Thomas Motes (Glenda), Fred Motes and Alton Motes (Linda Nell). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
