He was predeceased by: his parents, John Earl McMurphy and Ann Robinson Latham. He is survived by: his wife Knox Middleton McMurphy; his sons, Edward R. McMurphy Jr. (Sharae), Braxton Rush McMurphy (Lydia) and Coleman Rush McMurphy (Julie); his stepdaughters, Margaret Sears Jones (Freddie), Katherine Middleton Lapeyrouse (Mike) and Mary Knox Bixler (Billy); his grandchildren, Edward McMurphy III (Tres), Madelyn McMurphy, Henry McMurphy, Rivers McMurphy, Braxton McMurphy, Ethan McMurphy, Camille Jones, Clint Jones, Annie Loper, Jay Loper, Knox Bixler and Lanier Bixler; and his siblings, Earl McMurphy (Carol), Sandy McMurphy, David McMurphy and Robin McMurphy (Sammy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
