She was predeceased by : her husband David Earl Powell; her sons, David Lavon Powell and Earl Powell; her grandchildren, Chase Powell and Denise Danielle Stewart; and her parents, Chester Leroy and Annie Merle Mullins Griffin.

She is survived by : her children, Amanda Powell (Mario Mitchell), Rita Mount Cox (Johnny) and Jeffery Lightsey; her grandchildren, Carlos Trey Stewart and Cameron Deontrey Mitchell; her sister Frances Rhodes; and her close friend Larry Fuller. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
