She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Molian Dunning and Hattie Dunning; her siblings, Pauline Olds and Robert Dunning; her spouse Ercel Newton; her children, Barbara Ann Stallens McCray, Evida Newsome, Treva Elaine Hardaway, Pamela Yevette Trotter and Wendell Carl Newton; her grandchildren, John Stallens, III, Charles McCray, Jr., Reginald Pegues, Corey Stewart, Larry Stallens, Stephanie McCray, Bridget Hardaway, Sharya Aaron, Antonia Dudley, Christa Hardaway, Brandi Givan, Travae Griffith, Joy Ming Newsome, Daphne Stewart and Erica Pegues; her sons, Tony Ricks, Keith McIntosh and Derry Howard; her daughter-in-law Leola Meek Stallens; her daughter Jamerle Brown; her son-in-law Michael Hardaway; and her siblings-in-law, Eddie Alexander and Mary Alice Bell. She was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
