He was predeceased by : his wife Ruth DeFreese; his son George William DeFreese III; his parents, Lela and George DeFreese Sr.; and his siblings, Elizabeth, Fred, John, Jean and Martha.

He is survived by : his siblings, Harry DeFreese and Evelyn Hall; his daughter Judy DeFreese-Pylant; his grandchildren, Shawn Lackey, Brandon Mitchell and Tessa Rothert; his great grandchild Cristian Stark; and his nephew Roger Shirley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
