It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Tommie Ruth Gatewood (Midland City, Alabama), who passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her mother Ruthie Bennett Hammonds; her stepfather Raymond Hammonds; her father Thomas Gatewood, Sr.; and her brother Allan Gatewood. She is survived by: her daughter Tonya Tackett (Ken); her grandchildren, Breana and Alexis "Lexi"; her great grandchild Shawn Gatewood; her siblings, Mavis Merritt (Robert), Jeannette Gatewood Johnson, Lillian Gatewood, Thomas Gatewood Jr. and Clifton Gatewood; her uncles, Sonny M. Bennett and Ricky Bennett (Corinthia); her nieces and nephews, Nikki Bennett, Ashley Merritt, Robbin Merritt, Linda Merritt, Trey Merritt (Andria), Jena Johnson (Keesha), Jessyca Gatewood Cambell and Christopher Gatewood; and also, Alexis, Alicia, Jataveon, Deion, Kris, Maziyah, Jalayah, Taniyah, Isiah and Hasten.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sunset Funeral Home (1700 Barrington Rd, Midland City, AL 36350). A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel (1700 Barrington Rd, Midland City, AL 36350).
