He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Cates and Frances Calfee Cates. He is survived by: his sisters, Donna Lynn Haynes (Jerry) of Pell City, AL, Jena Frances Barnett (Doug) of Pinson, AL, Ann Marie Smith (Rodger) of Clanton, AL and Amy Leigh Merrell (Rodney) of Gulf Shores, AL; his aunts, Sylvia Lucas of Georgia and Sue Cates of Madison, AL; his uncle Joe Cates (Jackie) of Childersburg, AL; and his close friend David Glass. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
