He was predeceased by: his significant other Evelyn Ruth Bowen Sweatt; and his sister Eloise Brightwell. He is survived by: his children, Linda Ruth Sweatt Sanders (Jimmy), Charlene Marie Sweatt Hancock (Leon) and John David Sweatt (Kim Strifert); his grandsons, Richard Devon Sanders (Rebekah), Robert Pearson Sanders (Lisa) and Larry Michael Hancock (Abby); and his sister Bitsy Brock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the missions fund at Calvary Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama.
