He is survived by: his wife Velma Bridges Sumerlin; his children, Melissa Rhee Schaub (Joseph), Melanie Susan Baker (Phillip) and John Thomas Sumerlin; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Susan Baker, Josiah Phillip Baker, Timothy Ellis Schaub, Destiny Lowe and Cori Carroll; and his sisters, Betty Faye Thornton (Ralph) and Mary Eva Jackson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
