He was predeceased by: his parents, Tugalo Avery and Isa Yarbrough Avery; and his siblings, Ruth Lattie, Mary W. Ford, Glenn Avery, Clarence Avery and Russell Avery.
He is survived by: his son Joe Avery (Julie); and his granddaughters, Kyra Tidmore (Luke) and Abby Crigger. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
