He was predeceased by: his daughter Yulonda "Lannie" Hagler; and his brothers, Jimmy Staples and Leslie Staples. He is survived by: his daughter Kim Tharpe (Lee); his wife Merle Stewart Staples; his children, Rhonda Childers (James), Arthur A. Staples of Ozark and Darryl Staples of Ozark; and his sisters, Juanita Rollins of North Carolina, Nancy Godwin of North Carolina and Doris Hall (Jay) of North Carolina. He is also survived by seven step-children, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sixteen step-grandchildren, eighteen step great-grandchildren, and fourteen step great-great-grandchildren.
