It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Jean Cole Oakes of Phenix City, Alabama, born in Troy, Alabama, who passed away on November 16, 2020, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Cole and Leila Wright Cole; her daughters, Genie Denise Webb and Debra Kay Thomas; and her siblings, Charles Cole, Lee Frank Cole, Lula Floyd and Jimmie Sue Robertson.
She is survived by: her husband J. T. Oakes; her children, Donna Stokes (Steve), Tommy Webb (Vanessa) of Smiths Station, AL, Hank Oakes (Cathy) of Smiths Station, AL and Jason Oakes (Kim) of Smiths Station, AL; her sister Janice Durham of Phenix City, AL; and her close friend Chihuahua. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
