She was predeceased by: her husband Larry Atkins; her children, Sherry Lynn Messer, Gary Wayne Messer and Marty Messer; her great grandchild Bailey Gowens (Makenzie Smith); her parents, Arlis "Preacher" Taylor and Kathleen "Bunch" Taylor; her siblings, Jean Carroll, Pearlie Surrett, Curtis Taylor, John Tylor and Howard Lee Taylor; and her pet Abby.
She is survived by: her sons, Jeffrey Messer of Spring Garden and Joey Shane Messer (Tashia) of Piedmont; her grandchildren, Tristy Hart, Jessica Messer (John Kelly), Amanda Messer, Brianna Messer (Steven Hilburn), Tyler Messer (Amanda), Ryan Messer (Carrie Locklear), Michael Shell (Kayla), Austin Shell, Ashley Gnatz and Little Marty Messer; her siblings, Rubye Harbin and George Taylor; and her caregiver Holly Freeman. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Thompson Funeral Home & Crematory (6340 Old Piedmont Gadsden Hwy, Piedmont, AL 36272). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
