He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathanial "Jack" and Dura Ann Langley Smith; his wife Ellen Gibbs Smith; and his son Thomas Arthur "Tommy" Smith. He is survived by: his close friend Ellen Gibbs; his daughter Mary Alice Smith (Richard Prior) of Gainesville, GA; his daughter-in-law Miriam Cook Smith of Ranburne, AL; his granddaughters, Suzanne Smith Vinzant (Edward) of Richardson, TX and Melanie Smith Haigood (Brandon) of Ranburne, AL; his stepchildren, Steven Prior (Sandra), Cork, Ireland and Shari Prior (Bill O'Brien) of Omaha, NE; his great grandchildren, Trey Vinzant (Conor), Preston Vinzant of Dallas, TX, Tommy and Hallie Haigood of Ranburne, AL; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Rachael, Liam, Sam Prior, Cork, Ireland, Oliver, Casey and Cormac O'Brien of Omaha, NE.; and his son Clifford Hitt (Faye Hand).

With the ongoing health situation with Covid, the family asks that those who attend the visitation and funeral to practice social distancing and kindly consider wearing a mask.
