He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Jackson and Nancy Whaley Baker; his sons, Jeremiah Baker and Christopher Troy Baker; and his brother Joe Baker.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Anglin of Roanoke; and his children, Ethel Jones of Heflin, Teresa Faye Mateo of Alexandria, Nona Faye Baker of Wedowee, J. W. Baker, Jr. of Wedowee and Timothy Baker of Roanoke. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
