He was predeceased by: his parents, John Tipton and Lizzy Tipton; his grandson Steven Howell Jr.; and his siblings, Robert Tipton, Pearlie Owens, Viola Smith, Mary McKee and Jewell McAbee.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys Tipton; his children, Annette Howell, Pam York (Doyle), Garland Tipton (Vanessa), Phillip Mount (Wenda) and Tim Mount (Abby); his grandchildren, Christopher, Renea, Devin, J. R., Chrystal, Justin, Christy, Nick, Tyler and Erin; and his sister Beatrice Wilson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
