He was predeceased by : his wife Erma McCool Pate; his granddaughter Laura Pate Rasco; his grandson-in-law Michael Austin Rasco Jr.; his parents, Cathie Pate and Andrew Pate; and his siblings, Austin Pate, Howard Pate, Naomi Landers, Ollie Mae Azbell, Bertha Fondren and Mellie Maughan.
He is survived by : his children, Sylvia Pate Harper (Keith) of Chelsea, Alabama, Michael Lane Pate (Chrystal) of Hoover and Kenneth Wayne Pate (Brenda) of Holt, Alabama.; his grandchildren, Jeff Harper (Lindsay) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Matt Harper, Meredith Harper of Orlando, Florida, Shelly Pate Farace (Patrick) of Hyattsville, Maryland, Gina Pate of Kansas City, Missouri and Angela Pate Stone of Northport, Alabama; his great grandchildren, Paisley Stone of Northport, Alabama, Pate Thomas Stone of Northport, Alabama and Rosalie Rasco of Holt, Alabama.; and his siblings-in-law, Odis McCool (Narcissa) and Violet McCool. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
