He is survived by: his wife Sandra Messenger; his children, Becki Ponder, Tanya Wagner, James Martin and Rick Messenger Jr.; his stepchildren, Willie Whittington and Wendy Whittington; his brother Larry Houck; his stepbrother Sam Houck; and his brother-in-law Bob Muff. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
