He was predeceased by: his parents, Nancy Jane (Ingram) and Clarence Roosevelt Casson Sr.; his wife Ida Belle Casson; his siblings, Phyllis Beatrice Casson Thompson, Clarence Roosevelt Casson Jr. and Floyd Sterling Casson Sr.; his brother-in-law Rev. Archie Hamilton; his grandparents, William John Casson Jr. and Clara Rena Ducket Casson; his great-grandparents, William John Casson Sr. and Luella Carney Casson; and his great-granduncle Sgt. William H. Carney.
He is survived by: his children, Gwendolyn Tabitha Harper (Herbert J. Sr.) and Carlos Norman Casson; his grandchildren, Yvette Herndon (Lola Bailey), Herbert James Harper II, Jeffrey Yefsky and Sean Yefsky; his great grandchildren, Antoinette Balentine, Najé Harper, India Harper, Joseph Yefsky, Andrew Yefsky, Breonna Bailey, Breon Bailey and Kyona Bailey; his granddaughters-in-law, Tinthy Pounds Harper and Lori Yefsky; his great great grandchild Cyanna Burrell; and his brothers, Lloyd Stewart and Paul Charles Casson.
He has often been recognized for his service as a Launch Test Conductor for the Titan I Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, and later, the Titan II, but he is best known for his significant contributions to the success of the nation's lunar landing program, the Apollo Project.
