He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. James F. Bates and Ruth Caldwell Bates; and his brothers, Lonnie Bates, Sr., Dewane Bates, R. C. Bates and Gordon Bates.
He is survived by: his former wife Dona Loy Keahey; his wife Donna Bates of Pearcy; his son Edward Leon Bates, Jr. (Helen) of Pearcy; his granddaughter Michelle Bobo (Chris) of Springdale; and his great grandchildren, Anna Bobo of Springdale and Kyle Bobo of Springdale. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
