He was predeceased by: his parents, Fletcher Frederick Moon and Edna Hume Moon; and his siblings, Dwight, Ferrel Baker, Marie Zack and Vernertis "Pete" Foust.
He is survived by: his wife Joann Talley Shepherd; his children, Deborah Moon-Taylor, Steve (Debbie), Woody (Gayle) and Walter (Mandy); and his grandchildren, Mike (Lindsey), Traci Moltz (Ronnie), Lauren Cross (Silas), Barrett (Jamie), Mallory, Jonathan (Leanna), Rachel, Jordan and Chandler. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
