He was predeceased by: his parents, Hulon Lee and Kathryn Rodgers Austin of Rison, AR.; his daughter Karen Austin; his half-sister Nancy Harris; his brother Rupert Austin; his nephew Stephen Austin; and his stepfather Rufus Lee Rodgers.
He is survived by: his wife Linda; his son Chip; and his siblings, Cindy Harris and Larry Austin.
He was recognized by the Texas Legislature when he ran 238 miles from Allen to Austin, Texas, to raise awareness for the need for kidney donation after receiving a transplant himself.
