He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Omen Oakes and Helen Marie Carle Oakes; his former wife Helen Simon Oakes; and his brothers, John and William Oakes.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Stout Oakes; his children, Heather Gillaspy, Robert C and Thomas Oakes (Traci); and his stepdaughter Sandra Sears. He is also survived by two grandsons, one granddaughter and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
