He was predeceased by: his father Robert Smyers; and his niece Melissa Bozzola-Hobbs. He is survived by: his mother Betty Smyers (Stewart); and his sisters, Susan Purcella (Wayne), Sherilyn Smyers-Bozzola and Janell Smyers-Cranswick. He is also survived by many aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
