He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Fortner and Jennie Fortner; his siblings, Signa Mahaffey, Kendall Fortner and Dale Fortner; and his son Kendall Dale Fortner.
He is survived by: his wife Zelda Fortner; his daughter Kathy Bales (Bob); his daughter-in-law Carol Francka (Fortner); his grandchildren, Brittany Crosthwait (Kyle), Christian Fortner (Jenny) and Terra Marshall (Jacob); his niece Kristi Mahaffey Fontenot (Steve); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Josh Stanley, Jenn Hawkins, Joel Stanley, Jesse Stanley, Jon Stanley, Jordan Stanley, Jared Stanley, Joy Stanley, Austin Stanley, Julee Stanley and Jensyn Stanley; his nieces, Sharon Tanner and Sumuki Sweesy (Clair); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Sarah Blue Cloud, Rebecca Sweesy, Kelly Staples and Kent Staples. He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews, filling the role of father, grandfather, and mentor in their lives – their Great Uncle.
