He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Marcella; his sisters, Gloria and Della; and his son John.

He is survived by: his wife Lupe; his children, Debbie (Dave), Carina, Bernie (Billy) and Sonny (Joanne); and his brother Col. John Sanchez. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
