He was predeceased by : his parents, William Petersen and Esther Petersen; and his siblings, Marjorie, John, Ted and Carole.

He is survived by : his former life partner Carole Ann Engler; his wife Lila Hope Schoch; his children, Cynthia Barker (Keith), Christian Petersen (Shelli), Lisa Albertoni (Tony) and Lori Krieger (Mark); his grandchildren, Amy, Beriah, Andrew, Danielle, Elisa, Matt, Vincent, Bonny, David, Katie and Annie; his stepchildren, Denise Haman (Clark), Janet Juhala (Jeff) and Tom Schoch (Jill); and his grandchildren, Jessica, Janae, Jonathan, Katelyn, Lorelai, Audrey, Judy and Mairead.
