He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Helton and Amma Charles Peterson; his son Jeff Peterson; and his sisters, Elizabeth Crager, Eva Miller, Jackie McGuire and Lucille Dean.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Swales Peterson; his daughter Mary Peterson Grant (Kyle); his grandsons, Carson Grant and Garrett Grant; and his siblings, Charles Peterson (Rosalee), Joe Peterson (Mary), Betty Jo Hutchinson, Bobbie Jean Hall and Ann Cleckler (Dale). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
