He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Greenleaf. He is survived by: his children, Christine Holland, Cynthia Greenleaf and Richard Greenleaf Jr. Richard.

In lieu of flowers and to honor his love and stewardship of the nature world, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to The Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees campaign, and Sempervirens Fund.
