He was predeceased by: his parents, Georgia K. Scanlan and Lieutenant Colonel Joseph A. Scanlan Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Emily Scanlan; his children, Lauren A. Scanlan and Joseph A. Scanlan III; and his sisters, Margaret Jones and Kathleen Severo.
