She was predeceased by: her parents, John Skelton and Merrill Skelton; and her brothers, Paul Skelton and Stephen Skelton. She is survived by: her husband Patrick McGuigan of Fort Collins; her children, Jason McGuigan and Megan McGuigan; her daughter-in-law Michele McGuigan; and her grandsons, Justin, Jeremy and Joshua McGuigan.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to Adoption Dreams Come True in Fort Collins, or to the Gary Sinese Foundation. Another option, and one that would be "so-Carol", is to forego the donations and flowers and instead take someone you love out to lunch.

“I knew Carolyn and her friend Robin Jones from the Roller City skating rink in Glendora, CA, which they frequented, as did I. They were two of the sweetest young ladies I've ever known. I lost contact with them soon after the skating days, and I always wondered what became of them. Looks like they both had good lives.
