He was predeceased by: his father Alvin; and his brother David Halvorson. He is survived by: his mother Evelyn (Butterfield); his wife Mary Miller; his sons, Chris Halvorson (Ginny) of Colorado and Jeremy Halvorson (Sarah) of Montana; his grandchildren, Brooke, Savannah and Addy; and his siblings, Bob Halvorson (Sharon), Rod Halvorson (Diane), Peggy Weixel (Norbert), Roger Halvorson (Barb), Dennis Halvorson, Alvin Halvorson (Lori), Kevin Halvorson (Christy) and Karen Lee (Mike). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
