He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Linda; his daughters, Angela Leslie and Stacey Martel; his sons-in-law, Jonathan Leslie and Christopher Martel; his grandsons, Cruz and Cobi Martel; his siblings-in-law, Sherry Bultman, Kathy McFarland, Mark McFarland and Kelly Bultman; his parents, Dave Averch and Evelyn Averch; his brothers, Stanley and Steven Averch; and his daughters, Andrea and Anita Averch.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vern's name to the PEAK Center at Craig Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.
