He was predeceased by : his parents, James Alfred II and Blanche McDaniel (Guymon); his sisters, Helen McCarroll and Patty Armstrong; and his son-in-law Michael Wakefield.

He is survived by : his wife Margaret Dolores McIlvaine of Alamosa; and his children, Jill Sutterfield (Ben) of Austin, TX, Penne Hamilton (David) of Pagosa Springs, CO, Jane Wakefield of River Falls, WI, Patrick McDaniel of Fort Collins, CO and Pam Loose (Mark) of Gilbert, AZ.. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
