He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Robert Unrein and Rosie Unrein (Gottschalk); his former wife Margaret Schutte; his wife Shirley David (Wettstein); his brothers, Edwin, Elmo "Corky" and Ralph "Whitey"; his stepchildren, Jack David (Diane) of Englewood, Gerald David of Fleming and Janet Artzer (Steve) of Washington; and his children, Rick (Diane), Bruce (Joan) of Fleming, Steven (Sharon) of Brighton and Lisa Anderson of Houston, Texas. He was also cherished by 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
