He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Milton Park Herring and Arie Anna Herring (Bumpass); his siblings, Minta Sam and Lowell; his children, Lanna (Herring) and Rod; his wife Ann Herring (Brockman); and his children, Shaffer (Jeff Shaffer), Rodney Herring and Paul Herring. He was also cherished by 7 grand children, 8 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Murray and Ann worked together to provide a life, education and moral foundation for their three children, Lanna, Rod and Paul.
