He was predeceased by: his uncle David W. Putnam. He is survived by: his parents, William Barney and Gail Barney (Putnam) of Grand Beach; his sister Cathryn Toohey (Peter) of Grand Beach; his sons, Christopher Michael Barney of Grand Beach and William James Barney of Cheshire, Connecticut.; his uncle Stephen Putnam; his aunts, Pat Putnam and Yvette Putnam; his niece Mae Emmaline Toohey; and his nephew Wyatt Toohey.
