She was predeceased by: her husband John Westley Preston (JW); her parent Annie B. Royster; her son Michael L. Preston (Beulah); her aunt Phoebe Gaither; and her grandson Tyjuan Lewis.
She is survived by: her children, Lorna Preston, Sandra Preston, John D. Preston (Cynthia), Yolanda McLemore (David), Thomas Brent Gaither (Janice), Lori Gaither Gordon (Alphonso), Michelle Walker (Conrad) and Marshall Gaither; her grandchildren, Tamarah Baker (Kelsey), Sirmira Lewis, Kyra Preston, Tawana Preston, Brandon Preston, Gerald Preston (Athena), Darrell Preston, Corynn Young (Corina), India Thomas and Maya McLemore; her sister Barbara Ann Lucas (Willie); her godchildren, Darcel Marie Marrow and Julius Nelson; and her daughter Suzette Byrd (Richard). She is also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
