He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis A. Garten and Marie Garten (Bendett); and his brother Christopher. He is survived by: his wife Catherine Mangini; his children, Lisa Marie Johnson (Garten) and Brian Richard Garten (Tricia); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Kathleeen, Brian Nicholas Garten, Brenna Marie and Jacob "Jake" Anders Johnson; and his brother David Frederick Garten of Florida. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
