She was predeceased by: her parents, Pinkney Suggs and Mabel Ennis Suggs; her son David Barnes; her siblings, Willie James, Pinkney, Burnis, David, Helen, Ethel and Edie; and her grandson Troy Barnes.

She is survived by: her sister Mabel Louise Carmon of Virginia; and her children, Melvin Suggs (late Judy) of Maryland, Joe Suggs (Bobbie), Burnis Barnes (late Edna), James Barnes, Linwood Barnes (Sheryl), Clinton Barnes (Sarah) and Peggie Barnes.
