He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Maurice and Helen Aird Ames (Garroway). He is survived by: his wife Mona Ames (Munroe); his children, Douglas Ames (Mary) of Plainfield, Gwen Ames (Peter) and Cynthia Selene of New Mexico; his grandchildren, Christopher and Victoria; and his stepchildren, David, Peter Foss, Shannon, Nathan McKeen and Amy Merchant. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
