He was predeceased by: his parents, Arvid Kivela and Impi Kivela (Syrenius); his daughter Heidi; and his siblings, William, Rudy, Donald, Richard, John, Niomi Mackela and Doris Saari.
He is survived by: his wife Rosalind; his children, Edwin Kivela of New Bern, NC, Teira (Bob Nadeau) of Wauregan and Kiya Lamphere (Wes) of North Stonington; his grandchildren, Kyle Dugas (Emma) of North Stonington, Kelsie Wolfburg (Dan) of Brooklyn, Beau Dugas (Aly) of Colchester, Casey Dugas of Plainfield and Andrew Hadfield of North Stonington; his great grandchild Dean Wolfburg of Brooklyn; and his sister Eleanor Arvonen of Plainfield.
