He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Abell and Marion Abell (Backman). He is survived by: his son Joseph James Abell (Kathleen Abell) of Kensington; and his siblings, Warren "Bud" R. Abell Jr. (Lori) of Southington, Maureen Orlando (Frank) of Bristol and Phyllis Mirasola (Anthony). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to further his son's education in c/o Kathleen Abell, 658 Southington Rd, Kensington, CT 06037.
