He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter MacDougald and Catherine MacDougald (Nolan); his son Scott; and his brothers, Robert and Tommy.

He is survived by: his sons, John Jr (Sara) and Adam; his grandchildren, Colin and Carly; and his siblings, Edward MacDougald (Joann), Nancy Carey, Paul MacDougald, Cathy Alessandri (Mike) and Kenneth MacDougald (Lisa). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
