He is survived by: his wife Ora Mae; his son Robert E., Jr.; and his grandson Dominick. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Capital Caring Health Hospice or the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
