She was predeceased by: her parents, Lewis Gaines and Thelma Gaines; and her siblings, William Gaines, Lewis Gaines, Jr. and Carmon Brodie.
She is survived by: her children, Bruce Truitt (Theresa), Michael Truitt (Cindy), David Truitt (Jennifer), Christopher Truitt, Shirley Byrnes and Quinette Mahlow (David); and her siblings, Erwin Gaines and Wilma Chadwick. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Betty's name to Bethel Tabernacle Church for the Food Bank, 34190 Omar Road, Frankford, Delaware 19945 or to Delaware Hospice 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
