He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Howald and Bernice Howald; and his granddaughter Megan DeLettre. He is survived by: his wife Martha Howald (Griffiths); his children, Brad Howald (Bryn), Betsy DeLettre and Amy Welch (Ken); and his siblings, Margaret Heimlich, Marilyn Ludwig (Bob), Bertie Rice (Vic), Don Howald (Nancy) and Charlie Howald (Pat). He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donation to Samaritan's Purse would be greatly appreciated.
