He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Dawson and Ella Hogans Dawson; and his siblings, Alfred Dawson, Bertha Carter, Pearline Gipson and Louise Russ.
He is survived by: his children, Howard Dawson and Shameka Thomas; his godchildren, Eushonda McCall and Corey McCall; his grandchildren, Edward Pickford, Christian Goldson, Princess Peay and Prince Forbes; his great grandchild Isiah Thomas; his siblings, Fred Dawson, Rosetta Young, Theakley Dawson (Joyce) and Mary Eliza Dawson; and his close friends, Earl McCall, Hayward Clemmons, Donnie Andrews and John Siples, Jr.. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
